Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Welcome back and hello! I have been fortunate to have served as the Superintendent/Principal of Gerber School for three years. Last year, we made many positive changes to ensure that the best education possible is provided for your child. We also looked for ways to help support and increase parent participation in the educational process at Gerber School. We still have much to do and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you, the staff, the Board of Education, and your children to make this year an outstanding one. One of our main goals is to help ensure we have a positive and safe school climate as well as maintaining high academic standards. Working together we can truly make the Gerber School District an excellent one where everyone wants to be. I continue to be impressed with the dedication and commitment by the staff toward providing an outstanding education for all of our students.

This year we have made changes to our school calendar. I have included a copy of the calendar so that you can best plan for the upcoming school year. Two significant changes for this year will be the increase in the daily instructional minutes. For grades K-5th the increase will be five minutes, and for grades 6th – 8th the increase will be six minutes. These increases will move our bus schedules five minutes earlier in the mornings. These changes, however, allowed the school to create 10 minimum days throughout the year so that teachers will be able to plan and analyze student work to best serve all students.
I believe that communication is very important so we can work together to reach common goals. I look forward to meeting and talking with you. Please take time to meet your child=s teacher and attend school activities, such as Back to School Night, on September 3, 2009. If you have questions, concerns, or comments, please don=t hesitate to make an appointment with your child=s teacher or myself as soon as possible. It is important to maintain positive and direct open communications between home and school. Please read the RAMblings, (the parent newsletter) that is sent home every other week with information about the school. Working together we can truly make Gerber School an outstanding place for your child to grow and learn.

Sincerely,

Rod Stone
Superintendent/Principal
