All the News You Can Ewes

We have made it through our first two weeks of school. As of last Friday, our school numbers are beginning to level out. We are now at about 425 students. Teachers have been very cooperative with meeting our student needs as the year has started. The feeling I get when I walk around at recess and through classrooms is that students and staff are happy. What a wonderful feeling. I love being here at Gerber School.

One of my top priorities during the first couple of weeks of school is to make sure that all students understand the school and classroom rules. A good idea for you would be to discuss these rules and consequences with your children so that there is not any confusion. Sometimes children do not understand the seriousness of bullying. This usually accounts for the largest number of discipline referrals or suspensions. I take bullying very seriously. Every child deserves to feel safe at school. If you have a question about any rule please feel free to visit your child=s classroom teacher or stop by my office.

The emphasis on student achievement is always foremost on our minds. All staff is committed to assure your children are successful. To help us with this goal, parents play a critical role with student attendance. Please make sure your children are at school everyday and on time. We are also making a strong request that parents do not pick up their children early from school.

This is disruptive to the classrooms and students lose important “day ending” assignments and messages.

Gerber School will hold its Back to School Night this Thursday, September 3rd. You will receive more information about your child's classroom and programs, along with explanations of our Parent Handbook. This is an important time for all parents to come to school and learn about your child=s education programs. We look forward to seeing you.
We are ready for a great year!

Rod Stone, Superintendent/Principal
