Student Recognition:

Congratulation to Ernesto Torres, an eighth grade student, who was selected as the Elks Lodge Student of the Month.  Ernesto is a good role model, and an outstanding student.  His two favorite subjects are PE and History.  He enjoys playing all sports.  Ernesto was honored last week at an Elks Lodge lunch, and received an honor certificate.

Traveling:

We are getting close to the time of year when families do their holiday traveling. Here is a fun activity that will help develop your child's vocabulary.

Think of five categories, such as sports, machines, cars, flowers, and books.  Write the categories on a piece of paper.  Then draw five blank lines under each one.  Next, as you are traveling, ask your child to write down items they see that fall under each category.  Make it a contest to see how many items he/she/they can find.  When you have done this for a period of time, discuss their findings and why they fall in a specific category.  Make traveling a learning experience.

Magazines:

Did you know magazines are a great way to encourage children to read?  Here's why.

Many magazines contain stories on up-to-date events.  Articles about a new invention or the latest movie release are interesting to young readers B they're the topics kids talk about with their friends.

Unlike books, magazine articles can be read in one sitting B sometimes in only two or three minutes.  Even struggling readers find that tempting.  Not only are there facts and photos, many children's magazines include jokes, stories, and activities.  Your youngster may discover a new interest or hobby while practicing reading skills.

Halloween Carnival

Important news for everyone!!  Please save the date!!  This year the Parent's Club is hosting our Halloween CarnivalThe Carnival will be held on Friday night, October 30th from 5:00PM - 7:000PM.  This will be a fun evening for everyone.  Come enjoy the many activities, food, costume contest, and the very popular auction.  Flyers will be coming home soon with more information.  Please remember that this is a school function, and all school behavioral rules apply.  Also, it is getting dark earlier, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

PARENTS:

I would like to follow up on a letter that I sent home recently about student safety.  With so many cars and our buses in front of the school each morning, we are asking you to not drop off your child in the driveway.  We see many students running to the front doors darting between cars and buses.  Please take a minute to park your car and walk your child to the school.  We want every student arriving at school safe and sound.
